Evening at Christies

Auction house Christies celebrated the preview to an auction in a unusual way: an urban tribute to the fact that they were going to auction graffiti paintings for the very first time.
The paintings came from the private collection of a well known Dutch collector. The old fox knows very well how to attract attention to his ever so impressive collection. Location 2011: Christies.
In collab with TopNotch records, Lebowsky publishers and artists Niels Meulman, Quik, Laser 3:14 and Hugo Kaagman, the chique auctioners threw a nice party at their office mansion in the centre of Oud Zuid.
The party attracted an unusual mix of guests: the art investors and collectors, recognizable by the casual/corporate look and the old boys' club of the Amsterdam graffiti/street art incrowd.
On stage a minimalistic Dondi White, and Mr. Wix on the 1's and 2's, in front of it.
Outside the artists painted live and inside the party was alive. So alive, that around 01.00h the room filled itself with smoke, the fire alarm rang and all guests had to be evacuated to make room for police and fire fighters. Someone set the elevator on fire.
And with this ending, the event at Christies can be written into the book of rememorable Amsterdam graffiti parties.
